In the 7 years of running our Australia wide business we have never felt so unappreciated. Naturally in our business, occasionally we may have faults or accidents with car which may make them unavailable. Our cars are all very unique in their own way and unfortunately most of the time we won’t have an identical model as a backup option like the major car rental companies with thousands of cars. In this circumstance we sustained a DPF (diesel particulate filter) warning light. This is a common occurrence for diesel vehicles that only travel short trips. They prefer long trips and hard accelerations to keep the filters clean. Subsequently the vehicle was in limp mode and required a professional clean to reset the vehicle.Craig paid a rate of $260 per day for our very entry level vehicle in our fleet being the Jaguar XF Luxury model valued at $50,000. The closest vehicle of value to this car was our $1100 per day Mercedes E63 AMG valued at $200,000 valued 4 times that of the Jaguar. We called Craig to inform him of the troubles we were facing with the Jaguar. If we are facing trouble and are not 100% certain that a reserved car will be available, we always like to have a backup method in place. We offered the $1100 per day AMG to Craig for $400 per day which is more than a 60% discount. Being such a high value, high performance and luxurious vehicle, insurance alone costs us $400 per day. Therefore we were offering this to Craig at cost price to get him by until the Jaguar filter was cleaned.This is the reason why were were “reluctant” to do the E63 at the same price because any less than this we were making a loss. The customer enforced to us that he would not be paying a cent more regardless if he was getting a vehicle valued at four times of what he reserved. Our priority is to maintain customer satisfaction as being the largest luxury car rental company we have a reputation to uphold. Therefore our team came to the agreement that we would provide the E63 to Craig at the $260 per day rate ($840 per day discount) and swap to the Jaguar. This ‘loss’ is an example of the lengths we go to to maintain customer satisfaction.We delivered the E63 direct to the valet parking at Craigs hotel. The handover process took a quick 5 minutes and Craig was on his way. Even though we delivered such a high level vehicle at no extra charge, Craig was still quite cold to our team. His wife on the other hand was quite lovely and appreciative of the car.Regarding the vehicle change over and In regards to Craig’s “inconvenience” comment, we are disgusted. Our director personally drove a total of 3 hours to Geelong and back to swap the vehicles over. This was perfectly timed with Craigs dinner that night. He left the Jaguar in the car park at the pier. We parked the E63 right next to the Jaguar, took photos of both vehicles and left the key for Craig. Craig did not need to be involved in the swap over as we already had his ID as well as all of the car images. Craig finished his dinner to return to a Jaguar XF with zero inconvenience. All photos and instructions of where to find the key were submitted to Craig in our group Whatsapp discussion.Over the course of Craigs 7 day booking he had a total allowance of 1050km (150km x 7). Craig travelled 1090km in total (excluding our change over km) which means he travelled 40km excess. He also did not fill the tanks and was charged for 20 litres of fuel.We give our customers the choice of paying the security bond by EFT or PayID 24 hours prior to collection for cleared funds, otherwise by credit or debit card on arrival which has an associated unavoidable card surcharge. This is released 2 to 3 business days after return of vehicle (except damages).
